Bridging the Gap Between Emergency Response Agencies Through the Use of Interoperable Systems.

In any emergency, developing an emergency communications system is the key to a faster and more effective response. In the case of a large-scale emergency, communication between the various departments involved is crucial. Fire rescue, emergency medical, police and government agencies responding to the scene all need to know what is going on and where it is happening, fast.

Enter interoperability systems for the emergency or hospital incident command system.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines interoperability as the ability of a system to work with or use the parts or equipment of another system.

In terms of an emergency communications system, this means that fire-rescue workers on a scene can easily connect to law enforcement officials, who, in turn, can easily connect to emergency medical technicians within the hospital incident command system.

In short, now that everyone’s involved in an emergency communications system, rescue operations can happen much faster — saving time, resources, and ultimately lives.
